Whitney couldn’t help but chuckle at him. Oh, he hadn’t changed a bit. “Somehow I doubt that, but I’ll humour you and assume that what you say is true. The part about wasting my time, though-” She moved her arms back down to her sides and began to walk around his living room, looking for a computer or clearance card of any kind. “I don’t think that’s true; at least not yet.”

Jasper moved behind a table flicking his finger to open a drawer.  His eyes never left her.  ”You’d be very remiss in assuming I am not far more willing to shoot you where you stand. You are in my home, and how the hell you got in here I don’t know, but I will find out. I am far from the doe eyed kid you once fooled.”  

“And I far from the sleuthing double-crosser that fell for her own con.” Quick as a flash, Whitney pulled the knife from the strap on her thigh and threw it, pinning his hand to the wooden chest of drawers. “I have learned better than to trust you now, Jasper. This time I came prepared, and you will never sneak up on me again. That I promise you.”

Whitney moved over to where his jacket was laying on one of the kitchen chairs, picking it up with a gloved hand and digging into the breast pocket for any identification. “And if you’re looking for the gun-” she said, reaching into her inner thigh and pulling out the pistol that had been hiding in the drawer he was currently pinned too. “I sincerely hope you have another.”
